How is Cement Different From Concrete?

Funny enough, the question is a bit like asking “What is the difference between cake and cake batter?” Cement is an ingredient for concrete, or rather only a certain type of cement called “Portland Cement”, along with what are called “aggregates”. Aggregates are, in layman’s terms for completing the recipe, things like sand, gravel, crusted stone, natural or distilled water, fly ash, ground “slag” (which is a byproduct of manufacturing metals), silica fume (a by product of manufacturing silicon), lime and occasionally other ingredients as needed.

Not all concrete includes these ingredients and concrete must adhere to certain standards for composition and refinement, as impurities or certain mixing ratios will be produce substandard, brittle, or otherwise unsuitable concrete that cannot be relied on for professional construction.
