Want a Unique Driveway? Finish It!

Your unique driveway is often the first impression of your home, and how you finish it can add style, as well as major curb appeal.  Poured concrete may be finished in many different ways:  smooth, textured, exposed aggregate, and more. There are advantages and disadvantages for each.  Sensible Concrete would like to introduce you to some of the most popular finishes that help create a unique driveway.

Unique Driveway Broom Finish

This might be the most popular finish because it tends to be the most cost-effective option, and of course, you can add color to this finish, too!  Brooms are brushed over the poured concrete while setting, at exactly the right stage, giving it a slightly rough, but even-textured finish, with the added benefit of making it less slippery when wet.

Unique Driveway Smooth Finish

Smooth concrete is lovely to look at, but is lacking in traction, making it very slippery when wet, and not often recommended for most driveways.  Instead, smooth finishing is a finish for garage floors, and often a driveway border, or is placed between other types of finishing to act as an accent.

Unique Driveway Textured/Stamped Finish

A textured or stamped finish is quite an elegant and creative way of expressing yourself.  There are as many variations in design, pattern, and color as you can imagine!  The stamps are designed to look like individual paving stones that were laid one by one.  They are usually stained to look like stone or bricks.

Unique Driveway Salt Finish

Salt finishes allow for added subtle texture and traction to your plain or colored concrete. This style is also budget-friendly!  Coarse salt rock is spread, then rolled, onto fresh concrete.  When it dissolves, it leaves the appearance of a speckled pattern with small indentations.

Unique Driveway Exposed Aggregate Finish

An exposed aggregate finish is slip resistant and durable.  It is created by carefully washing away the thin layer of the surface cement that binds the concrete, exposing the gravel aggregate, and leaving a colorful, pebbly appearance.
