WHAT TYPE OF CONCRETE SEALER SHOULD I USE?

A concrete sealer is essential for protecting surfaces

Ahhhhhh…..  It’s beautiful.  You are looking at your newly finished, pattern-stamped, interlocking pavers, acid-stained, exposed aggregate, colored, stenciled, or engraved concrete … whatever. You have just paid good money to have one or more of the following poured and finished: a pool deck, patio, driveway, floor, or walkway – and you want to keep them looking this good for as long as possible. The best way to accomplish that goal is to apply a concrete sealer.  All exterior concrete should be sealed for a longer, more beautiful life.

A concrete sealer is essential for protecting surfaces from water damage which often is caused by the type of freeze/thaw cycles we have in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge winters.  A sealer can also protect your concrete from deterioration and stains from dirt, oil, deicing salts, and more. A good sealer will keep concrete for many years to come. Skipping this detail as a way to “save money” is not really an option.  Your investment needs to be protected from exposure to weather and use; otherwise don’t be surprised if it becomes discolored, stained, cracked, or even flaky.

So, by now you are thinking:  What’s the best concrete sealer to use for a driveway, patio, pool deck, or walkway?  Sensible Concrete recommends one that is:

  • UV resistant
  • Breathable
  • Slip-resistant, even when wet
  • A penetrating sealer, not a film-forming product

In addition to protecting your investment, when a good concrete sealer is used, maintenance is easy!  You can wash your sealed concrete surfaces with just soap and water, or a degreaser designed for cement, and bring back freshness and beauty to the surfaces also can add to your curb appeal.

Oh – and sealing your concrete surfaces is not a “one-and-done” scenario.  To keep your concrete surfaces beautiful and give them a long, long life, a fresh coat of sealer should be put on about every three years.  Sensible Concrete’s service, quality, and expertise in pouring and maintaining concrete is here to help you!  Give us a call and let us recommend a sealer, or apply it for you!
